Florida may require women to have an ultrasound before going for an abortion....

All sides will be watchful when the Florida Senate takes up a bill that would require women wanting an abortion to view an ultrasound beforehand or sign a form to decline.
Abortion opponents and supporters, clinics and the clergy, have weighed in on the measure that the Senate could take up on Monday after some floor debate this week. A similar bill passed the House.
Ultrasounds are required under Florida law before an abortion in the second or third trimester. What’s proposed is requiring an ultrasound before first-trimester abortions with the technician or physician reviewing the live images with the woman before she gives her informed consent to an abortion, according to the bill sponsored by the Senate Majority Leader Daniel Webster, R-Winter Garden.
The bill would allow a woman to decline to view the ultrasound; she must sign a document to do so. The measure also has a provision that exempts pregnant women in cases of rape, incest or domestic violence.
Supporters say the bill would enhance informed consent and educate women about abortion; opponents say the bill is an affront to pregnant women who have considered their options carefully.

Happy Holidays

Well....now that Christmas is over and we are looking to the new year...I am ready to take this new business to a new level. We need to get the word out that Look Who's Kickin Ultrasounds & Maternity Spa is now open in Estero, FL!! We are gearing up for our Open House event on Saturday, Feb. 7th. We are hoping to introduce our services to the moms and families of Lee and Collier counties. I am still looking for vendors to participate in this event. So far, we have Faith Miller Photography participating. I have contacted a few other vendors but with the holidays it has been hard to reach anyone. I am hoping to line up someone from La Leche League, a childbirth educator, and several others. Viacord is helping to market this event for us. We are going to be sending out lots of mailings with invitations to the event. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the big day!!

Open House--Saturday February 7, 2009

We finally set the date for our first OPEN HOUSE! Its Sat. Feb 7th! We are excited. Viacord is sending out 500 mailings to our local pregnant population...inviting them to come check out our facility and experience a 4D ultrasound at a very discounted price! I am in search of local vendors to help support our event. Whether its childbirth educators, lactation consultants, or business owners who cater to pregnant women and babies! I am excited to get things rolling on this!!

Non-Diagnostic 4D Ultrasounds

Its funny...as a nurse I was taught that only doctors can reveal health information to patients. We are only here to support the physicians and the patients. I think the same goes for the rest of the medical field such as sonographers, lab technicians, mammography techs etc. Only a physician can give a diagnosis. Its an ethical issue if you ask me. Here at Look Who's Kickin Ultrasounds we offer non-diagnostic 4D ultrasounds for entertainment purposes only. We cannot diagnose or treat medical issues. We will do our best to give you a memorable experience and introduce you to your baby's life inside the womb. We cannot give you any information regarding your baby's organs, estimated weight or due date---these are all things that are supposed to performed by a physician only. If you go for an ultrasound of your kidney because your doctor suspects stones...you might ask the tech if he or she sees any stones...but I can guarantee you they aren't allowed to give you that information. Its the same thing with our ultrasounds. We are only here to provide you with entertainment. Some of our competitors may offer reassurance scans and such but we leave that up to your physician. We have heard first hand that our local doctors don't want patients visiting an outside entertainment ultrasound facility for diagnostic information. They provide their patients with due date information and don't appreciate someone contradicting them. We leave the diagnosing to the physicians. Just Another Saturday...

Today we are here again at the shop. We have been getting a lot of phone calls inquiring about our services. We have also been getting calls about Look Who's Kickin gift certificates. What a great gift idea! Not only for Christmas but for baby showers also. I think a gift certificate for a 4d ultrasound would be an awesome gift! Tonight we are going to a Christmas party...should be fun. We have a busy week ahead of us....quite a few of ultrasound appointments! We are excited!

Today was pretty productive at Look Who's Kickin Estero

Today was spent doing a lot of marketing and computer stuff. I learned to blog from a very computer saavy friend of ours. She explained the ins and outs of blogging and how it can really help market your business. I think blogging will be good for Look Who's Kickin Estero because I can promote our ultrasound and massage services while talking about something that I am passionate about. I also plan to help my husband Jeff with his Estero real estate and finance blog. We got a few phone calls today from potential customers inquiring about our ultrasound services at Look Who's Kickin Estero. We had our massage establishment license inspection and we passed!! So... our license should be here any day. This is exciting news because now we can start doing our prenatal massages. Everything is coming together and we are very excited about the possibilities to come!
